WHAT WE DO
We are an independent charity that helps young people in both crisis management and in supporting positive progression from issues or problems they are experiencing. Our main focus is preventing homelessness aligned to resolving financial challenges, relationship issues and through our preventative work supporting the journey to independence through education, employment and training.
THE BASEMENT PROJECT
;The Basement Project has two main areas of service delivery – the “Drop-In” services, delivered from our main office on Hanover street, Bromsgrove and through our Drop-In venues in Evesham, Kidderminster, Malvern, Worcester City. And the “Floating Support” service; where our experienced and qualified team support young people in their homes and the communities across Worcestershire.
Our team work across the two areas to offer support to young people in crisis management and through preventative interventions. This covering a wide variety of issues relating to their housing situation such as dealing with possible evictions; prioritising debt; living on a budget; family mediation and emotional and physical well-being; and supporting young people into education, employment and training.
We offer family mediation and counselling support and where appropriate we will signpost to other services and professionals that operate in our network of support services.
In our preventative work the team go into schools, colleges to talk to groups of students about issues relating to homelessness and relationships as well as offering one to one support; we run activities and events such as our successful “Picnic in the Park” which supports physical health and mental wellbeing; our Application Station initiative targets the journey to securing and sustaining employment; and we have re started our workshops that develop life skills.

Our Story
How We Got Started
In 1998, the Worcestershire Youth Service held a conference on youth homelessness, attended by a group of young people from the county. Many of them had been homeless or had grown up in care. They told the conference that there was little or no support for them in Bromsgrove. As a result, professionals attending the conference (from the local voluntary, statutory and private sectors), together with County and District Councillors, set up the Bromsgrove Youth Homelessness Forum. The Forum first operated from the basement of a local church, registered as a charity in September 2000 and is now also a registered company.
